The Game Expo Thoughts

By Drawza

What a weekend.

This was the first convention I had a media pass for and I wanted to make the most of it.

With this website focusing on more indie gaming, The Game Expo was a perfect opportunity to get a look at so many amazing games.

I will provide a quick summary of each game that was showcased in a later article but for now this article is purely for my thoughts, fresh off a weekend filled with playing games and talking to those responsible for making them.

I had the honour of talking to so many passionate game developers, hearing their inspiration and hearing their joy about what they put into their game.

Whether it was a love of footy or wanting to explore a new side of Dracula, each game offered something fresh.

Some games instantly reminded me of a game I had once ventured into the world and gave me a sense of nostalgia mixed with this new experience.

Then, there were the games that took me on an emotional ride with the story, making me want to know the secrets that were just out of grasp as it was just the demo.

It opened my eyes to the industry I have seemingly dipped my toes into, provided me with insight into the hard work of what goes into making an indie game.

Now, onto The Game Expo… having only attended PAXAUS, the similarities are obvious yet it also forges a unique identity, the focus purely on GAMES.

The focus was on the Indie Games, the artists, board games and a few gaming tournaments.

This instantly made The Game Expo feel intimate, with the ability to walk the floor without any major crowds, this gave a greater sense of having the ability to experience what each stall had to offer.

Now, here I am, sitting here writing this article, with so much ahead of me and already looking forward to The Game Expo 2025.

The Australian gaming industry is bright and we move on to the next level, sorry about that pun and I will see myself out.
